Sardar Parkash Singh Badal is recognised as the most prominent political figure who was born on 8th December 1927 in Abul Khurana, Punjab Province during British India. He passed away on April 25, 2023. He served as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) party from 1995 to 2008. With an extended exposure to the political issues and resolutions, he has also served five terms as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1970-71, 1977-80, 1997-2002, 2007-12 and 2012-17.
He was also the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 1972 to 1977, 1980 to 1983 and from 2002 to 2007. Apart from this, he also served as the 11th Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in the Morarji Desai ministry during the year 1977.
During his tenure, he had a strong influence on the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee as well as on the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee. He was a great politician who actively participated in transforming the Punjab State into a well-organised and developed area by focusing on agricultural policies, rural development and infrastructure projects to improve the overall socio-economic conditions of the state.
