Captain Amarinder Singh played a pivotal role in realizing the establishment of Punjab's first sports university, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala. Conceived by Captain Amarinder Singh to preserve Punjab's sporting heritage, the university's ultra-modern campus, situated on 92.7 acres of land, came to fruition with a cost of approximately Rs. 500 crore. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone on October 25, 202, emphasizing the need for specialized sports education. The university, recognized by the UGC, focuses on sports sciences, sports technology, and sports management. The state-of-the-art campus features outdoor sports facilities, fitness centers, academic blocks, and a museum to celebrate Punjab's sporting glory. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur State University of Law, Tarn Taran
In August 2021, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh virtually laid the foundation stone for Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur State University of Law in Tarn Taran to commemorate the 400th Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur. This initiative aims to provide specialized law courses to the youth of Punjab. Captain Amarinder Singh emphasized the need for sufficient funds from the finance department to ensure the timely operationalization of the institution. Initially, classes will begin in a transit campus at Kairon village, with a designated 25-acre land for the main campus in Kairon.
Degree College for Girls, Boota Mandi
In February 2019, Captain Amarinder Singh laid the foundation stone for a Degree College for Girls at Boota Mandi in Jalandhar. With a commitment to establishing 50 colleges in three years, the government focused on addressing the decade-old demand for educational infrastructure in the area. The college, costing Rs 13 crores, was planned to be completed in 1.5 years. The comprehensive infrastructure included administrative and academic blocks, laboratories, a multipurpose hall, and sports grounds.
Medical College Project in Hoshiarpur
He laid the foundation stone on April 14, 2021, for a prestigious Rs. 375 crore project in Hoshiarpur, which includes the construction of a medical college building (Rs. 325 crore) and infrastructure development with ultra-modern machinery (Rs. 50 crore). The state government entrusted the project to PWD B&R to ensure quality and timely completion. The initiative aims to enhance healthcare facilities in Hoshiarpur, providing treatment for major diseases with the availability of super-speciality doctors.
Nawab Sher Mohammed Khan Government Medical College, Malerkotla
In a historic move, Capt. Amarinder Singh declared Malerkotla as Punjab's 23rd district on June 7, 2021, accompanied by a slew of development projects for the city. One of the flagship initiatives was the establishment of the Nawab Sher Mohammed Khan Government Medical College, a testament to the state's commitment to advancing medical education. With an allocated budget of Rs. 500 crore, this medical college was set to become a cornerstone for local students aspiring to pursue medicine. The State Government had allotted 25 acres of land on Raikot Road, and the first installment of Rs. 50 crore was sanctioned to kickstart this transformative project.
Government College for Girls, Malerkotla
The vision for Malerkotla's development included a significant focus on women's education, exemplified by the foundation stone laid for the Government College for Girls. This institution, with an estimated cost of Rs. 12 crore, aimed to empower women through accessible and quality education. Telemedicine Program
Former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on May 18, 2020, launched a telemedicine program in collaboration with Christian Medical College (CMC) Ludhiana and IMAS Healthcare Private Limited. This groundbreaking partnership facilitates physician-to-physician video consultations, leveraging the expertise of Cleveland Clinic (USA). The telemedicine services cover various medical areas, including Cancer, Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Pulmonology, and general medicine. The initiative aims to provide advanced healthcare services, especially relevant during the Covid-19 pandemic, and CMC Ludhiana becomes the first academic institution to partner with IMAS for Cleveland Clinic video consultations in India.
Connect With Your Roots Initiative
Launched in September 2017, the "Connect With Your Roots" initiative was introduced by Captain Amarinder Singh to facilitate Punjabi-origin students abroad, aged 16-22, to reconnect with their ancestral roots. The program involved organizing two-week tours of Punjab for groups of 15 students. The tours were tailored to include visits to historic sites such as the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, and Wagah Border. Captain Amarinder Singh envisioned this initiative to dispel misinformation and provide firsthand experiences of Punjab's rich culture. Initially launched in the UK, the program planned to expand to other European countries, the US, and Canada.
Punjab Smart Connect Scheme
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh launched the second phase of the Punjab Smart Connect Scheme’, on November 7, 2020, distributing smartphones to 80,000 class 12 students in government schools. The scheme, costing Rs 87.84 crore, aimed to strengthen digital infrastructure for effective digital education. Additionally, 877 tablets were distributed in 22 senior secondary schools.
Mission Shat Pratishat
Mission Shat Pratishat was launched by Captain Amarinder Singh to achieve 100% results in government schools for the academic year 2020-21 despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of this initiative, 2,625 tablets were distributed to students in 372 primary government schools. The mission also involved the virtual inauguration of 1,467 Smart Schools in the state. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening digital education infrastructure through various means such as E-Books, EDUSAT Lectures, E-Content, and online classes.
Ghar-Ghar Rozgar
On October 31, 2019, the Punjab Government introduced a pioneering Job Helpline, a component of the 'Ghar Ghar Rozgar' program. Captain Amarinder Singh heralded this initiative as a platform connecting job seekers with potential employers, aiming to provide substantial employment opportunities annually to the state's unemployed. The helpline, reaching every household in Punjab, operates with a 110-seat backend call center and calls 75,000 mobile and landline numbers daily. The initiative, developed and operated by Unnati Online Pvt. Ltd., utilizes technology to serve underprivileged sections by notifying job seekers about suitable opportunities via automated phone calls, SMS, and WhatsApp. The Punjab Ghar Ghar Rozgar & Karobar Mission oversees this under the government's broader employment assistance scheme.
