Aman Arora Lays Foundation Stone for ₹14.48 Crore Mother & Child Hospital in Sunam, Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure

Punjab Cabinet Minister and Sunam MLA Aman Arora has taken another significant step towards strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of the Sunam Assembly constituency by laying the foundation stone for a 50-bed state-of-the-art Mother & Child Hospital at Udham Singh Wala. The hospital, being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹14.48 crore, is expected to provide quality maternal and child healthcare services to thousands of families living in Sunam and nearby areas.

The project reflects the Punjab Government's continued commitment to improving public healthcare by ensuring that people have access to modern medical facilities close to their homes. Once operational, the hospital will reduce the need for patients to travel to bigger cities for specialized treatment, making healthcare more affordable, convenient, and accessible.

Modern Healthcare Facilities Under One Roof

The upcoming Mother & Child Hospital has been designed to offer comprehensive healthcare services for women and children. Equipped with advanced infrastructure and modern medical technology, the hospital will cater to both routine and emergency healthcare needs.

The facility will include well-equipped Outpatient Department (OPD) rooms, allowing patients to consult specialists conveniently. It will also feature modern operation theatres capable of handling a wide range of surgical procedures with improved safety standards.

To strengthen maternal healthcare services, the hospital will have a dedicated Normal Delivery Room, ensuring safe childbirth under expert medical supervision. Diagnostic services will be enhanced through a Testing Laboratory and an Ultrasound Laboratory, enabling faster and more accurate medical evaluations.

In addition, the hospital will house a fully functional Pharmacy, an ECG Room, a Pediatric Care Room, and an Immunization Room, allowing patients to receive multiple healthcare services within the same premises.

One of the key highlights of the project is the establishment of a Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), which will provide specialized treatment and monitoring for premature and critically ill newborns. A dedicated Feeding Unit for infants will further improve neonatal care and support mothers during the early stages of childcare.

Separate waiting areas for patients and attendants have also been planned to ensure a comfortable and organized healthcare experience.

Better Healthcare, Closer to Home

The new hospital is expected to significantly improve healthcare accessibility for residents of Sunam and surrounding villages. Currently, many families are compelled to travel to larger cities for specialized maternal and pediatric treatment due to the lack of advanced facilities nearby.

With the establishment of this modern healthcare centre, patients will be able to receive quality medical care within their own constituency. This will not only reduce travel time and treatment costs but will also ensure timely medical intervention during emergencies.

The project is expected to play a crucial role in improving maternal and child health outcomes while strengthening the overall healthcare ecosystem of the region.

₹57 Crore Invested in Healthcare Projects

Speaking during the foundation stone ceremony, Aman Arora highlighted the Punjab Government's consistent efforts to improve healthcare facilities across the Sunam Assembly constituency.

He stated that nearly ₹57 crore has already been invested in various healthcare projects aimed at strengthening medical infrastructure and expanding access to quality healthcare services.

Among the major projects is the construction of an OPD Block, Trauma Centre, Blood Bank, and Medicine Warehouse, being developed at a cost of approximately ₹25.05 crore. These facilities are expected to significantly improve emergency care, diagnostics, and medicine storage capacity for the region.

Healthcare infrastructure is also being expanded beyond Sunam town. A new hospital is under construction in Cheema at a cost of approximately ₹14.05 crore, while another hospital is being built in Longowal with an investment of around ₹11.05 crore.

These projects collectively demonstrate the government's long-term vision of strengthening healthcare services across the constituency.

Expanding Primary Healthcare Services

Apart from large hospital projects, the Punjab Government has also focused on improving primary healthcare through community-based medical facilities.

As part of this initiative, eight Aam Aadmi Clinics have been established across the constituency to provide free primary healthcare services, essential medicines, and diagnostic tests closer to people's homes.

Additionally, 12 Health and Wellness Centres have been set up to promote preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, routine medical consultations, and public health awareness.

These facilities are helping reduce the burden on major hospitals while ensuring that citizens receive timely medical attention at the grassroots level.
